Keen to go canyoning? Get ready because this is a big one. Our Crew have put together some tips so you can get the most out of this adventure.
Here’s what you need to know before you go canyoning.
Pick loose clothes
You’ll spend most of your time in a wetsuit, so definitely come wearing swimmers. When you’re not in the wetsuit, you’ll want loose clothes that are easy to chuck on top, especially at the end when you’re not completely dry.
Wear old shoes
Those new shoes you bought? Yeah, keep them at home. We recommend an old pair of joggers for this one because while it’s a lot of fun, things can get dirty (you’re in nature after all). You’ll be jumping between bush and water and climbing over rocks, so enclosed shoes are a must. Oh, and the more grip, the better.
Pack food and water
A physical day of abseiling, swimming, climbing and bushwalking will leave you starving. So, bring food. And a sh*t tonne of water. Packaged foods like crackers, nuts and muesli bars are good options. Your guide might bring some snacks to share along the way, but we recommend packing extras to be safe.
Make use of the dry bag
You will need to carry all your belongings with you but don’t stress, your guide will give you a dry bag to keep them from getting wet. It’s perfect for food and clothes – but maybe not your phone. Leave this one back in the car if you can – otherwise a waterproof case might be a good shout.
Eat breakfast before you go
Whatever you do, eat breakfast. For real, this is an awesome but active day out in nature, and you’ll need all the energy you can get. Eat a decent breakfast before you go and thank us later.
The important gear will be provided
All the gear you need to go canyoning will be provided on the day. This includes the wetsuit, helmet, harness and pack. You’ll also be given a dry bag. You just need to turn up with food and snacks and you’re good to go.
