Abseiling and canyoning

These mountains aren’t just for looking at. If you’re keen to try abseiling or canyoning, Blue Mountains is an amazing place to do it. Mountain biking

Back in the open air, Katoomba is the starting point for a number of the Blue Mountains’ best mountain bike trails. We think some of the best views come from the sky, making a hot air balloon ride over the Belubula Valley and wine region outside Orange (with a champagne breakfast no less) an experience you’re unlikely to forget in a hurry.

Where are the Blue Mountains and how do you get there?

The Blue Mountains are around 80km (100km by road) west of Sydney CBD. This mountainous region and national park is easy to reach by car, train or coach trip making it one of the best day trips for Sydneysiders and visitors to the city.

If you drive you can reach the town of Katoomba in around 90 minutes, while the Blue Mountains train to Katoomba from Central Station takes around two hours with several stops along the way.

If you take the train to the Blue Mountains you’ll a range of bus options in Katoomba to take you to popular spots like Echo Point (the viewpoint for the Three Sisters). There are also explorer buses stopping off at the town of Leura and popular attractions like Scenic World.
